Internet of Shipping Containers: Business Plan of Container Tracing System

Ninety percent of world trade is transported by sea, and yet the technology embedded in the container has remained unchanged since 1955, when the first container was introduced in the USA. This lack of technology evolution in the container industry results, most of the time, in an under-utilization and loss of value for the stakeholders involved in the transportation chain. Under the framework of the MBA International, our team was assigned to examine the savvy and potential market capabilities of a Container Tracing System (CTS). The scope of this project is to investigate and analyze, how the container transportation works, as well as to identify all the possible stakeholders that are involved in every step of the process. Based on these results our objective is to introduce the concept of “Internet of Containers” (IoC), and trace the added value across the entire supply chain of container transportation.
