Requirements engineering by means of the KAOS methodology

The field study project applies the KAOS methodology in the Requirements Definition phase of a specific Software Development project, traces eventual omissions and suggests possible improvements in the realization of the project.
As far as the KAOS methodology is concerned, the following conclusions resulted from the analysis: instead of providing an easy solution, the KAOS methodology analyses in depth the problem and its environment, it offers completeness and leaves no room for ambiguity. With regard to the particular software development project, certain issues were detected concerning the workflow, for which there was no provision to be incorporated in the functionality of the System. Such issues should be taken into consideration for the reflection of the process within the System in order to cover users’ possible future needs.
The project deliverable provides know-how for the implementation of this pioneering methodology enabling significant time and cost savings for the sponsoring organization.
