On Thursday, May 29th, 2025, more than 100 business executives, professors, postgraduate students, and graduates gathered at the Wyndham Grand Athens hotel for the Energy Summit titled “Rethinking Energy in Turbulent Times.” The event was organized by the i-MBA Energy & Sustainable Development Club in collaboration with the MBA International.
This year’s summit built on the momentum of last year’s successful conference, “Energizing 2030,” which marked the revival of the i-MBA Energy & Sustainable Development Club. With a focus on the rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape, the 2025 summit explored its effects on corporate strategy and the broader challenges facing the green energy transition.
The event opened with welcome speeches from Professor Eric Soderquist, Director of the MBA International, AUEB, and the organizing team of the Energy & Sustainable Development Club, Thanos Tolias and Konstantina Lavranou. Special remarks were also delivered by Despoina Paliarouta, Secretary General of Transport at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and i-MBA graduate.
The first panel, titled “Navigating Through Turbulence” was moderated by Yiannis Kouloumpis, President of the Energy & Sustainable Development Club. Distinguished speakers included Michalis Thomadakis, Chief Strategy & Development Officer at DESFA; Manolis Kalaitzakis, Director of Strategy & Business Development at EnEx; and Aris Tsikouras, Group Decarbonization Strategy Director at TITAN. Together, they offered valuable insights into how companies are adapting to uncertainty and managing strategic risks in the energy sector.
The second panel, “Energy Horizons” was moderated by Konstantinos Eleftheriadis, Partner and Energy, Resources & Industrials Leader at Deloitte Greece. Esteemed participants included Katerina Karali, Director of Strategic Planning and Regulatory Affairs at ELPEDISON, and Dimitris Sarantopoulos, Head of the Natural Gas Sales Unit at HERON. Their discussion focused on future energy trends, investment opportunities, and the evolving regulatory landscape.
