The use of data in modern data-rich business environments is one of the most crucial parameters in successful decision making. Data collection, processing and analysis are present in all activities: financial transactions, marketing intelligence, call records, smart phones, wearable devices. Terms like business intelligence, big data, business analytics, machine learning, GDPR, are in the epicenter of any business unit of an organization.
Responding to this, i-MBA introduces a new elective course entitled “Business Intelligence & Analytics” from the next academic year, 2021-2022. This course introduces i-MBA students to data management concepts, modern data analysis methods and data visualization techniques. These skills are necessary in our data-driven economy. The course will be conducted by Professor Damianos Chatziantoniou, Director of the MSc in Business Analytics, AUEB.
After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:
- Design a relational database and use SQL to write simple and somehow complex queries, using a popular commercial database system (e.g., MS SQL Server, MySQL),
- Design a simple data warehouse (star schema) and utilize ETL techniques to populate it with data, using a popular commercial DW system (e.g., MS SQL Server Analysis Services),
- Use a popular visualization tool for reporting and data analysis (e.g., Power BI) and
- Understand the fundamentals of next generation data management systems.
